"The clear blue skies with intense sunshine return once again over Bangula as the rainy season draws to a close. The rains have not been much to brag about this year, at least here in the southern district of Malawi. In fact, the lack of rain has caused great concern among thousands of families who have had their crops destroyed by the drought during December and January. Some fortunate enough to have found more seed, have persisted, planting again, yet have very little to show.

“Our Iris Malawi base is growing and changing. The walls are going up on four new children’s homes. This will mean big changes for everyone, including our new children and house parents. We will double our number in terms of beds, food, uniforms, schooling, clothes…everything! Other new buildings include a home for Timothy Makwalo, our Bible school director, and a home for Daryl and Rebecca Martin, who have come to host our visitors.

"Iris Malawi has grown significantly in the last year. We have completed
our two primary school buildings, and a kitchen / dining room facility
that will serve both the bible school and the primary school, as well as
the many staff. With 50 children on site, 50 student pastors, and
many workers, there is a constant buzz of activity. A dormitory for
visitors is well under construction, as well as a house for Timothy and his family (one of our national leaders who is directing the bible school).

“At our Iris base in Malawi, we now have 48 children who live in 4 homes with Malawian house parents. To meet the educational needs of these children we started an Iris Primary School, currently with classes for pre-school through grade 5. Our second school block is coming to completion.

"The Iris Malawi Base is growing and changing all the time. With four children's homes now occupied, and a total of 43 Iris children, there is never a slow moment! Our Malawian house parents, Hedson, Fanny, Rose, Lamek, Zione, and Dorothy are a tremendous answer to prayer. Your continued prayers are needed as they give all they have to this great task.

"Our Iris base continues to expand. When you drive into Bangula at night, ours are the first lights you see. With two children’s homes and two pastors dormitories, plus two missionary homes, there is a veritable suburb developing!!

“Two third-year classes of pastors from the Bible school have now been graduated, and we have taken from those classes ten new teachers. Of our 365 churches in Malawi, 180 pastors have finished at least their first year of Bible school, and 60 have completed the three year training. There is a great hunger for teaching, and we look forward to the day when all of our pastors will have received the benefit of thorough teaching on the basics of Christianity and Kingdom.

“Life in Bangula makes the line between life and ministry much less obvious, if there should be a line at all. Life is full of opportunities for blessing those around us, whether by welcoming people into our home, or by preaching a message about the incredible gift we have in Jesus, or by listening to an old lady tell us about her struggles to find grass to repair her roof before the rains come. Ministry comes in all shapes in Malawi, among the poorest of the poor.

Much has changed in the year and a half that the Morrisons have been in Malawi. “It has been so exciting to see things expand. Two dorms to house the pastors, a second classroom and a washroom have been built. We are beginning to dig a second well, and just recently received electrical power on the site. Plans are in place to begin an orphan home, and to build a guest house for visitors.
