August 2010 Don & Elizabeth Kantel Update

Don and Elizabeth have now completed five years of fulltime service with Iris in Pemba…making them the longest serving missionaries there currently apart from Heidi and Rolland themselves. (They were also fulltime missionaries at the Zimpeto Base in 2002 and have been part of Iris since 1999.)

August 2010 John & Sandra Ewert Update

"Life in Mozambique is always both busy and interesting. Though our primary role the past eight years has been to minister within the context of the bible school, this past December through the middle of February we were asked to give much broader oversight to the ministry, covering many areas that are outside of our 'normal' range of function. It was both a privilege and a stretch to step into this role. We especially enjoyed being able to help the poor on a daily basis.

“It has been a different season in my life since the last update.

”In January 2010 I returned to Canada for some medical attention to my acoustic neuroma. After much prayer and medical consultation, the decision was made to have surgery, and the date was scheduled for April 19th.

“Mo wakens with the birds, before the sun is up, and heads to his office for coffee and quiet! Jo hopes to waken at 6 a.m. in time for a walk before school, but will accept a cup of tea in bed and a bit of quiet if that doesn’t happen. Meanwhile, Kalina and Patrick like to get up at 6 and begin their school day. Daniel prefers the evenings, and gets up in time for 8 a.m. school. Thandi arrives at 8 a.m. to join us for our school day. At 8, we should all be up and ready to roll. We spend the first 2 hours doing math and language arts, and other independent subjects.

I write this update on New Years Day. I am standing here and looking one way to the past year and then looking the other way towards this coming year, and realize even more how good and faithful our God is and how his tremendous love for us moves and transforms us into the children he planned for us to be all along (Jeremiah 29:11).
