Anna comes to Iris from her home in Calgary, Alberta. From the time she was a young girl, Anna had a desire to go to Africa. The dream came true in the Spring of 2005 when she travelled to Tanzania on a school trip. It was on this trip that the Lord spoke to her, telling her that she was going to be a missionary in Africa. Not knowing the exact direction, Anna then attended Trinity Western University, and graduated in 2010 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in general studies, Biblical studies and TESOL. It was during these years that the Lord instilled a passion in her heart for the nation of the Sudan.
In Anna’s last semester of University she heard about the Iris Ministries Harvest School of Missions in Mozambique and applied to attend the Fall 2010 school. After being accepted, Anna learned that there was an outreach to South Sudan being offered and she jumped on that opportunity. From the moment she stepped on the plane she was in love with the people, the culture, the land… It was soon after her return from this outreach that she knew she would go back long term. Within no time she was booking her flight back to the Iris base in South Sudan, and began serving there in June 2011.
Anna is teaching photography and English to the children at the base. She is also the base photographer and helps out in many practical ways as they arise.
