"And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit whom he has given us." Rom 5: 2-5
"These last months have been ones of great suffering for many Mozambicans throughout the country. February brought severe flooding in the Zambezi area in the north of Mozambique, leaving thousands as refugees seeking shelter in camps in small grass huts. At the same time, a large cyclone seriously damaged the city of Vilanculos in central Mozambique. Ironically, while the north was flooded, the south saw crops fail due to severe drought.
"I have just returned for my second year here at Zimpeto after some time back in Canada visiting with family and friends and I am excited to both build upon relationships built last year and forge new ones. At the moment, my work will continue in the same areas. As the head of hospitality I work with a team that coordinates all aspects of our visitors' time here. Our goal is to practically facilitate their visit to allow the Lord to transform their hearts and worldview.
"The last few months have brought some diversification in my job description here. I continue my work as head of a wonderful hospitality team, and together we work with 1200+ short-term visitors each year (2-3 week visits). I also continue my work in the library only once a week now, as a young Mozambican manages it. A few months ago I felt the Lord moving my heart to do some teaching in the Bible school where we train Mozambicans to be pastors, and also to begin building relationships with our 60 girls.
“These past four months, I have been amazed by the Lord's grace over every aspect of my move to Mozambique. The transition and adjustment has been much easier than I expected, allowing me to feel at home here very quickly.
