September 2007 Nancy Anderson Update

"These last months have been ones of great suffering for many Mozambicans throughout the country. February brought severe flooding in the Zambezi area in the north of Mozambique, leaving thousands as refugees seeking shelter in camps in small grass huts. At the same time, a large cyclone seriously damaged the city of Vilanculos in central Mozambique. Ironically, while the north was flooded, the south saw crops fail due to severe drought. For us at Zimpeto, March 22nd is a day we will never forget, as a large munitions dump 2 kms from the center caught fire and sent bombs and missiles exploding through the area for 4 hours. The centre itself was hit by 3 missiles and much shrapnel damaging the church, Bible school, and many buildings. We all feared for our lives, but miraculously, not a single child or worker was injured or killed despite over a hundred dying and many hundreds being injured and losing homes on the four sides of the centre. We all came to appreciate Psalm 91 anew.

"Personally, these months have been very busy and stretching. Our winter months bring our busiest season with visitors with a compound full to capacity of 40 most weeks from April-September. And, in June I was especially stretched in helping to coordinate this year's annual staff retreat. But, in that stretching I saw the Lord provide in miraculous ways. This week, our Bible school began our third semester since January. The Lord has taught me much through teaching these last three semesters.

"Perhaps the highlight of the last months has been watching the Lord open the doors to deeper relationships with our girls through providing them a simple glass of milk each week (and sometimes cookies/cake/sweets). Through the business and challenges, the Lord has been speaking much about the importance of these relationships and also continuing to abide in Him because apart from Him we can bear no fruit."
