"As we are heading into our winter season, many varieties of flowers and trees continue to bloom and bear fruit. In the same way, God continues to bring a harvest here in Mozambique, in the midst of difficult circumstances. My heart has been wrenched over the last several months, as our precious Mozambicans have endured many devastations, such as self-exploding missiles and bombs, horrific flooding, cholera outbreaks and the threat of mini-tsunamis. Yet I place all confidence in the faithful promises of God to bring beauty out of ashes, and to work all things together for good. In the midst of great need, many dear people are choosing Jesus to be their Saviour. One day in church God spoke clearly to my heart. We are certain that nothing is impossible for Him. He ‘alone’ is able to redeem and transform a people for Himself here in Mozambique, and yet He invites us to have the great privilege of participating with Him.
"I recently travelled with a team to minister in the province of Zambezia. There the floods have left multitudes of people homeless, destitute and completely dependent on outside aid, until villages can be rebuilt and crops re-established. As I have always loved health care, I was thrilled to serve with a medical team in a little makeshift outdoor clinic. It was horrifying to see how untreated skin infections, in non-hygienic conditions, quickly become so serious. Thank God many will live, and save their limbs, because they received crucial medical help and prayers for healing. Many more now have life eternal, because of many opportunities to share the gospel and pray with these precious people, one by one.
"One day we stood with a group of children who had gathered to watch our mission plane take off. Afterwards as I was turning to make my way back to our base, a visitor walking with me suggested I use my Portuguese to tell the children about Jesus. As we stopped for this little crowd of sweet faces, I shared the story of Jesus and then led them in prayer to receive Jesus. I was so happy we seized the moment. Please pray with me to stop, look and seize the day, even when I'm tired. Every day here in Mozambique brings with it fresh and new opportunities!"
