March 2007 Children's Feeding Program Update

Through the generosity of the many friends of Iris Ministries in Canada, it is possible to greatly expand our feeding of poor children in Northern Mozambique (both in and around Pemba and beyond).

This now includes provision of three meals a day for about 200 local children and for an additional 50 orphans at the nearby village of Mieze, plus a hot midday meal for up to 600 other village children. On Sundays after church, we feed many hundred more village children.

In the month of February we took delivery of 1,000 25 kg sacs of dried rice! Also included in this food program is the purchase and distribution of a large quantity of powdered baby formula, most of which is distributed to mothers in surrounding villages. This commitment has expanded considerably in recent months as we have become aware of the large number of infants dying from malnutrition and/or dehydration. Gifts earmarked for this project will enable us to expand it in the months ahead.
